If you need to receive money into your Chime account then you might be questioning if it’s possible for the sender to transfer you the money from an external bank account, and the available methods they have to send the funds.

That being said, let’s run over everything you need to know about receiving money on Chime.

How Can Someone Send Money To My Chime Account?

Senders with a Chime account can instantly transfer funds into your Chime account inside the app via the friends’ feature. Senders without a Chime account will need to visit the bank physically or initiate a transfer through their mobile banking app. To do this, they will need details such as your Chime account and routing number.

Can Anyone Send Money To My Chime Account?

Most banks will allow anyone to send money via a bank transfer into your Chime Checking account, even if the sender doesn’t have a Chime account. Below are available methods to send money with or without a Chime Account.

Those With A Chime Account

It’s simple to receive money from friends who already have Chime accounts.

  1. Locate the Pay anyone tab at the bottom of the screen
  2. Enter the amount they want to send
  3. Add an optional note and press Pay now

Those Without A Chime Account

Chime accepts money transfers from most other banks. For someone to transfer money to your Chime account from another bank, they will need the account and routing number of your Chime account, and then follow the steps below.

  1. Locate their mobile banking app
  2. Enter the amount of money they want to send to you
  3. Send the money over to your Chime account

The money will usually arrive in your Chime account between 3-5 working days.

Transferring Funds From A Linked External Account

If someone needs to send you funds, they can also send funds to an external bank account that you have linked with Chime, and then you can transfer this money over to your Chime Account. The following steps will enable you to link an external account to your Chime account.

  1. Log into your Chime App
  2. Navigate to the Move money option at the bottom of the screen
  3. Select Transfers
  4. Then enter the details for your other bank (external account)

This will link your external account with your Chime Checking account and enable you to send and receive funds from both accounts (transfers take up to 5 business days for completion)

Can Someone Send Money To My Chime Account From Another Bank?

It’s possible for someone to send money into your Chime account from another bank. For the majority of banks, this process can be completed by either logging into your account on their website, through their app, or by physically visiting them to make a bank transfer, so, check beforehand to see if this option is available to the person sending you money.

For somebody to initiate a money transfer to your Chime account, they will need to locate the transfers section inside their banking app and input your details, including your Chime routing and account number (the same ones used for direct deposits), the amount they want to send, and then send the money over to your Chime account.

How Long Does It Take Chime To Receive A Transfer?

If you’re receiving a transfer from another Chime member via the Pay Anyone or Friends feature, then this will be an instant transfer into your Chime Checking account and usually completed within 30 minutes.

If you’re receiving payment from another bank, then this will take longer, and this should be in your account within 5 business/working days. The reason for this is that electronic payments between banks are completed through an ACH transfer, that operates on business days only. Chime also states that their banking partners want them to hold the transfer for at least 3 business days.

It’s also important to consider weekends and bank holidays, as they don’t count as business days. As an example, if you placed a transfer on the Friday evening before a bank holiday, you would have to wait until the next business day for the transfer to initiate, which would be the following Tuesday, which would then mean the money could potentially roll over into the following week to arrive!

However, this is an unlikely situation, and in most instances, transfers should be in your Checking Account within a week of being initiated.

Are Any Of The “Receive Free Money On Chime” Ads Real?

Promotional adverts such as Chime Sweeps, or referral bonuses are put in place by Chime to make people’s days a little brighter and will also be linked to the Official Chime website. It’s important to note that Chime will never use the words “free money/cash”, ask you for additional info, or send you to a third-party website.

If you suspect someone is a potential scammer you should seize all contact and report this issue to Chime support at +1 (844) 244-6363.
