Chime works with a range of retailers that allows you to reload your card when you need it.
Learn where to load your Chime card and how to do it with this guide.
Where Can I Load My Chime Card?
You can load your card by visiting Chime’s cash deposit partners all over the world. These include Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, Speedway, and 7-Eleven. You may also transfer funds from an external bank account via Chime’s “Move Money” feature, but this works with major banks only.
Chime has partnered with third-party retailers spread over 90,000 retail locations so you will not have trouble finding one when it is time to load your card.
All you need to do is ask the cashier to make a direct deposit to your Chime checking account and you can use your card for transactions.
Of course, you need to know your deposit limits so that you know how much cash you can load into your Chime card. To do this, you should check Settings > View limits on your app.
You can usually deposit cash up to three times per day, with a limit of $1,000. After that, you need to wait for the next day before you can load your Chime card again.
The monthly cap is $10,000. This cannot be changed, so if you need to deposit more than the limit, you may need to consider other options for money transfer.
When loading funds to your account, you need to swipe your Chime card for the transaction to go through. Chime’s cash deposit partners will not accept manual entry of your debit card number.
You will not be able to make a cash deposit if your card’s magnetic strip is damaged. You will have to replace it first.
Cash deposited via third-party retailers is insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), so all transactions are secured.
However, you should note that most third-party money transfer services impose fees per transaction. There may also be a limit on how frequently you transfer money to your Chime account.
If you do not want to go out and reload at Chime’s partner retailers, you send money to your card via bank money transfer. Keep in mind that this only works with major banks such as Bank of America, Chase, and Citibank.
The advantage of utilizing bank money transfers is you can send up to $10,000 per day. Meanwhile, the limit per month is $25,000.
You cannot load your Chime card at an ATM.

Loading your Chime card via third-party retailers is easy. You first need to find a location near you and go there to initiate the transaction.
Then, do the following steps:
1. Head over to the cash counter and give your Chime card to the cashier.
2. Indicate how much money you want to be loaded into your card.
3. Pay for the transaction. Most retailers impose a fee on top of your total cash amount.

You should do these steps:
1. Open your Chime mobile app and log into your account.
2. Tap the “Move Money” button, then “Transfers.”
3. Select “Click your external bank account” and choose your bank.
4. Enter your username and password.
5. Transfer the amount you want to load to your Chime card.
How Much Does It Cost To Load Your Chime Card?
Retailers typically charge a $5 fee for loading your Chime card. This is on top of your payment for the amount you asked to be deposited into your account. Chime emphasizes that any additional fees set by the third party are not decided by them, but by the establishment involved.
To avoid setbacks, you should check the fee charged per transaction by your chosen retailer. This can be done via your Chime app.
First, open the app and log into your account. Select the “Move Money” tab, then hit “Deposit Cash.” You will see an option that allows you to see cash deposit services near you.
To check their transaction fee, simply tap the “Info” icon beside the retailer’s name.
You should remember that the fee differs from retailer to retailer. Some also require a minimum deposit before agreeing to the transaction.
For instance, Walmart usually charges a $3.74 fee when reloading a Chime account. It does not impose any minimum deposit so you can send up to $1,000 per day.
Both CVS and 7-Eleven charge a $4.95 fee for every reload. However, CVS limits customers to $500 per transaction.
Speedway stores cost less at $4. There is also no minimum deposit.
Some retailers do not impose fees.
Are There Cheaper Ways To Put Money On Your Chime Card?
If you do not want to be charged extra for loading your Chime card, you can deposit cash at Walgreens and Duane Reade. There are over 8,500 store locations you can choose from.
Walgreens is a reliable option for your Chime reload needs. After a successful loading, you can use your card at any store that accepts VISA payments.
The process is fairly simple. You only need to visit a Walgreens or Duane Reade store and ask a representative to deposit the money on your Chime card.
Money transfers from an external bank to Chime are also usually free. You can deposit the funds you want by using the Chime app.
How Long Does It Take Until Your Deposit Is Reflected On Your Chime Card?
If you load money via a cash deposit partner, you should wait for about two hours to see the funds reflected in your account. This period is needed for the retailer to manage your request. However, there are instances when the money is processed immediately.
Once you make a transaction, you will receive a notification on your Chime-associated mobile number to let you know that the money is available.
You may also log into your Chime app and check your account balance a couple of hours after loading your card.
For bank transfers, the waiting time is longer as it may take three to five days for the funds to be reflected in your Chime account. If you need the money right away, you should load using third-party retailers instead.
